Do you know that 1 out of 4 girls will be sexually abused before the age of 18?

Consequences can extend well into adulthood and cause broken relationships, self-worth, and academic performance.

Become a life-saver for hurting youth with an SOS workshop!

Educated, Engaged and Empowered:  Becoming a Life-Saver for
Maltreated Children

While meeting all the requirements of revised Ohio law (3319.073) for teachers K-12 (in addition to daycare licensing), Bonnie will keep you alert, entertained, and inspired by her story of recovery from childhood sexual abuse.  You might even find her climbing a ladder – or bringing along some extra shoes, so you can walk a mile along the path of the abused child who may sit in your classroom.  Bonnie brings awareness to both the mind and heart for a presentation that is not soon forgotten.

Educated, Engaged, & Empowered covers these important topics in a 3 - 6 hour format:

  • Definitions for all forms of child maltreatment
  • Signs and symptoms of sexual, physical, psychological and neglectful maltreatment
  • Symptoms of perpetrators and dysfunctional family systems
  • How to distinguish abuse from an accident
  • How to appropriately respond to disclosures of abuse
  • How to properly document behavioral indicators
  • When, where, and how to make a report of suspected child abuse or neglect
  • Best practice prevention strategies for child abuse, school violence, and drug addiction
  • How to encourage positive youth development
  • Legal obligations of mandated reporters

Teen Dating Violence:  Recognition and Response

Physical, emotional, and sexual TDV can leave behind a wake of other unhealthy behaviors including substance abuse, eating disorders, sexual risk behaviors, unwanted pregnancies, and suicide attempts.  Learning to recognize and respond to targrets and offenders of
TDV will help prevent this dysfunctional pattern from carrying through to adult years.

This 2 hour workshop meets the requirements of Ohio HB 19 for in-service training in dating violence for all middle and high school employees, and will cover:

  • Current dating violence statistics and trends
  • Correlation between child maltreatment, community violence and IPV
  • Warning signs of victims and perpetrators
  • What teens need to know about IPV and healthy dating relationships
  • How to intervene and respond to situations of IPV
  • Curriculum resources
