Keeping Kids Safe: Breaking the Silence About Touching Safety
Children can learn how to be alert to sexual abuse or communicate it promptly once it occurs - but only if we teach them how! Prevention is a powerful safety tool that is rarely used because adults don't know how to start the conversation. Your parent group, faith community, or youth organization can become life-savers by breaking the silence!
In this 1 - 2 hour workshop, Keeping Kids Safe will cover:
- How to begin and continue conversations with children of all ages about personal touching safety
- How to minimize risks of contact with an offender
- How to recognize the signs and symptoms of a touching problem
- How to report and offer help to a child with a touching problem
- How to review your faith community or organization's policy and procedures to keep children safe and protect the health and longevity of your organization
The Power of New Shoes: Preventing Runaway Behavior
The worn-out shoes of 1 in every 7 kids between the ages of 10 and 18 will hit the streets running. This will add to the estimated 3 million youth on the streets of America - and 13 of those kids will die everyday from violence, drug addition, and suicide.
In this 3 hour workshop, The Power of New Shoes will cover:
- Current runaway statistics
- Understanding the factors that fuel the desire to run
- Reviewing the risks of street life
- Prevention strategies for runaway behavior
- Current trends in providing youth emergency shelter, outreach services, and independent living opportunities.
As a former teen runaway, Bonnie will answer these questions while sharing her personal story of life on the streets - and the life-saving power of youth shelters.
